Great Lakes Invasive Species Landing Blitz

Happy Summer!

SLPOA has received grant funding for the 2025 Great Lakes Invasive Species Landing Blitz to educate boaters regarding best practices to protect Spider Lake and indeed all lakes in Michigan.  We will be hosting 3 events at our DNR Boat Launch this summer:

  1. Saturday June 28

  2. Tuesday July 1

  3. Saturday August 16

We are seeking 4 volunteers for each date to spend approximately 4 hours from 10 am to 2 pm.  Tasks will include distributing information to boaters and silent sports enthusiasts regarding best practices for decontaminating watercraft prior to and after launching.  We will also be distributing some products with the Clean, Drain and Dry theme, and customized water bottles as we engage  in "hands off” instruction on how to inspect, identify and remove aquatic vegetation, and stress the importance of draining bilge and live wells. We will be asking a brief series of questions to gather information on knowledge and practices.  During the July 1 session, we will also have on site the Benzie Conservation District Mobile Boat Wash crew.

Volunteers will receive instruction on the format and instructional content and survey questions and how to engage with the visitors to our launch. A YouTube instructional video will be available to review as well, prior to the event.  Snacks and hydration will be available.  All Volunteers will receive a sporty water bottle with SPLOA logo, and fashionable professionally designed T-shirt as well (see below).

If you are interested in helping your lake association and protecting Spider Lake,  please contact us with the dates of your availability.
