GT Parks Passes CAMP GREILICK Operations Plan
It’s OFFICIAL!!
Going forward, the name for that beautiful spot on Scout Camp Road has been formally adopted … it will be called CAMP GREILICK.
Seating was a premium at the Governmental Center Thursday night for the GT County Parks and Recreation Commission meeting. 50+ people from our Forest Lakes Area, but mainly from Rennie Lake listened to passionate remarks concerning Camp Greilick during Public Comment portions of the session as well as the discussion held by the Commissioners. The three main points of concern remain: 1) events; 2) alcohol use and 3) amplified sound.
The commissioners asked numerous questions of the Director and Associate Director of GT County Parks and Recreation. After much discussion, they ultimately decided with one commissioner expressing dissent, to approve with their “tweaks”, the current “Operations and Management Plan”.
This action means that the whole plan goes before our Township Planning Commission for ”Site Plan Review”, possibly at their next meeting, which is scheduled for Tuesday, September 2nd at 6:30 pm in our township hall.
Pending our PC’s approval, GT County Parks and Rec would proceed with the gradual opening of the park to the public.
As you might guess, this is the simplified version of events. In actuality, the whole process is very complex with our township ordinances, legal review and some administrative steps needing to be included and considered as well.
Going forward, we will keep you updated here, on our SLPOA website and in ENews (as time permits and for those members whose email addresses we have). In the meantime, please refer to: Gtcountymi.gov/2779/camp-greilick-updates
